Power of Attorney to Retrieve Car or Motorcycle from the Port

Authorization document for customs processing of a vehicle
Power of attorney to process and retrieve an undeclared vehicle without being present.

Bringing a vehicle into the country can be complicated—especially if you’re unable to travel to the port in person. Whether your car is arriving at the Poti Port, Batumi Port, or any other entry point in Georgia, you can authorize someone to handle the process on your behalf with a simple notarized power of attorney.

With this document, you don’t need to leave your city or visit the port. A local notary can issue the authorization, allowing a trusted company or individual to:

  • Complete customs clearance,
  • Open the container,
  • Retrieve the vehicle from the port,
  • And deliver it to your preferred location (e.g., in Tbilisi or anywhere else in Georgia).

This solution is ideal for:

  • People living abroad or in different regions of Georgia
  • Buyers of vehicles from international auctions
  • Importers handling multiple shipments
  • Anyone looking to save time and avoid the complexity of port procedures

Documents required for the agreement:

  1. Valid ID card, driver’s license, or passport of the grantor (the person giving the authority) must be valid, and the person in the photo should match
  2. A contract or other document confirming vehicle ownership (e.g., invoice or bill of sale)
  3. Full name, surname, and ID number of the grantee (the person or company who will retrieve the car on your behalf)
  4. The grantee does not need to be present when issuing the power of attorney

Validity Period

The power of attorney can be issued for any length of time—one day, one week, one year, or indefinitely. However, a shorter validity period is recommended, as the vehicle retrieval process usually takes only a few days. There is typically no need to give someone long-term authority over your car unless absolutely necessary.

Agreement cost: 25 GEL
